The long weekend from June 3rd to 5th saw a stacked lineup of events, so I decided to participate in both the EuroTour race from Lausanne to Thonon on Saturday and the first stop of the SUP Tour Schweiz in Ermatingen on Monday.
The race in Thonon was long and hard, 18.5 km straight from Lausanne across the lake to the french coast. The conditions on the Lac LĂ©man made the boardchoice a tough one, because nobody new how flat it would really be. During the race I suffered after choosing the wrong draft after the start and having to play catch up after that. I ended the race with a way to long sprint against Tommaso and Federico and finished 33rd.
In Ermatingen the first stop of the Swiss tour waited for me with another 12km of perfect flat water.
I paddled the whole race with Andi Saurer (huge respect for his improvements), and had to fight him off on 200m from the last buoy to the finish. Guess we can safely say we smashed the course with a 10.0 kph average on 12km.
If you want to read more on those two races klick here for my summary in the Mike Juckers StandUpMagazin (german).
On June 10th I competed in my “almost homerace” – it is situated at the lake of Zurich, but my real homerace is the one in Zurich – in Meilen. The course was a funny lap of a 1 kilometer lap around two buoys, so the 8k race made us practice our buoy turns. I managed to win the race in front of Andi Saurer.
Now I am looking forward to the Lost Mills Race. I will participate in both the 200m sprints on Thursday and the longdistance race on Saturday.
