The start into the 2021 Season finally took place with the ICE Race from Interlaken to Thun. Unlike other years the race made part of the EuroTour and the competition thus was a lot stronger. Additionally the later date and warm weather made the conditions a lot more challenging to all participants with a lot less flatwater than other editions.
Nevertheless it was a great race and I was happy to see that, despite to the last few month more focussed on studies and work than paddling, I still managed to keep a decent place in this international field and finished just outside the top ten in 12th place.
The weekend after the ICE Race the second tryouts for the Swiss national team took place at Lac Leman. As in the first tryouts we tested in 200m, 2000m and 5000m time trials.
Unlike the first tryouts in March we had great weather and we were able to do all the tests in great conditions. Those who know Lac Leman might know, that great conditions there also always mean some chop, but after the ICE Race that was just a continuation. I am very excited to see more people joining the quest to compete at the 2021 ICF SUP World Championship on Lake Balaton in September.
Next race for me is going to be the SUP Race Uster at the weekend of the Uster Triathlon on 17.7.2021 – see you there!
